Garlic Benefits

Not only do I love potatoes, but I love garlic! I use it in almost every single meal I cook. Not only because it tastes fabulous, but because it has multiple health benefits too! Garlic is high in antioxidants so eating it helps boost your immune system. Studies have shown that garlic can reduce your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and protect you from multiple cancers. It’s also good for your tummy because it is prebiotic, which is food for beneficial bacteria in your stomach. Garlic can also support memory functions and may fight against Alzheimer’s.

But you don’t have to take my word for how awesome garlic is, this article from Health.com, and another from Medical News Today give even more detail than me!

Healthy Garlic Mashed Potatoes Ingredients

For my mashed potatoes I like to used Yukon gold potatoes because they make a smooth and creamy texture, but you could always russet potatoes if that’s what you have on hand. I like to add some full-fat greek yogurt to my mashed potatoes because it adds a nice tanginess, similar to sour cream. If you don’t have yogurt, you could use sour cream, but the calories will obviously increase. Not only do I use fresh garlic in this recipe, but I also use granulated garlic! It adds even more depth of flavor, and you won’t be able to miss the taste. You have the choice of using dairy milk or almond milk in this recipe. But if you would prefer, oat milk is an option too.

Mashed Potato Equipment

The easy way for me to mash potatoes is using a potato masher, but you could also use a fork too. It will just take longer. Overall, the tools for this recipe are simple, and it doesn’t take a lot of clean-up.

Recipes Tips

There really aren’t too many tips to give for this recipe because it’s so easy. However, be careful not to over mash your potatoes because they can turn gummy and have a bad texture. Also, to drain the potatoes and garlic, you can either use a colander or place a lid on the pot carefully and tip it over the sink. That will save you from cleaning another dish.

  1. Ah, thank you! I have really perfected the most delicious calorie laden mashed potatoes. And now, my booty shows that. Haha I need to scale mine back and this will help so much!!! Thank you!

  2. These sound delicious. I will definitely try them. We love potatoes. Although they are a nightshade veggie and can be inflammatory (science isn’t clear on that though), I can’t give them up. Moderation is the key, I think.

  3. I definitely want to make these for Thanksgiving this year! And I totally agree that Yukon gold potatoes are the BEST for mashed potatoes. Great recipe!!! 🙂

I’m from Transylvania. I love garlic!😄 Is it OK though if I replace the broth with a drop more milk? I don’t have any broth in the kitchen right now, and this will be tonight’s side for steak. Thanks for sorting a meal idea for me!
